Yesterday I went to Nuuanu Pail State Wayside, which overlooks the the southeast side of the island. I got there shortly after sunrise, and had the whole place to myself for an hour. Apparently all the other vacationers like to sleep in. Above is a HDR I took from an old abandoned road on the side of the mountain, which was replace the the road you see pictured. I’m guessing I wasn’t supposed to be up there. There was a path leading down from the overlook that ended with a ‘road closed’ sign, that I proceeded to walk around. They aren’t trying very hard to keep people out.

Here are a couple HDR panoramas I made from the overlook and road. I’ve wasted at least a couple hours the past two days trying to find a trail that leads to waterfall near this overlook, but haven’t been able to find it yet. We have some distant relatives that live here on the island, and we’ve spent quite a bit of time with them during our stay here. He told where the trial began, but I couldn’t find it.

This is my attempt at photographing star trails. It’s not terrible, but not that interesting either. From here the North star is relatively low in the sky and pretty dim. I couldn’t see it with my naked eye, but figured it was in the lower left corner of the frame. It wasn’t. I just missed it by a hair. Hopefully I’ll have more tomorrow.
