With all the fascinating ways ice can form on Lake Michigan, I don’t know why I never really tried to photograph it until this winter. Tonight I went downtown and climbed up the 15 foot high mound of ice that formed on the breakwater. I’m tempted to go back tomorrow morning to have another go at it. These are all black and white because even after adjusting the white balance, I found the overall color unpleasant.
I started out wide.
Then I went a little closer.
Then a little closer.
Then I went even a little closer.
The reason I went down to the lake in the first place was to see what were referred to as ‘ice volcanoes’ on WUWM this morning. I assume they’re more interesting with water shooting out of them.
